george

lesson #5887 in battling stupidity
chemistry may be the most boring subject on earth taught by the most boring teacher on earth, but DO NOT UNDER ANY CIRCUMSTANCES SPACE OUT.
because you'll find that when you're cramming the night before for a test on gas preparation [of the non-flatulent kind], that the teacher has actually mentioned that he will only be testing three of them, and has in fact told you which three he will be testing you on.
not only that, you've already attempted to save irrelevant information on your 12Kb brain memory which is just a total waste of time, energy, and school fees.

aaron told me about the bravest and most selfless little guy ever.

a jack russell terrier named George saved five children from being attacked by two pitbulls in new zealand
yesterday. the little dog jumped in to defend the children [aged between 4 and 7] from being mauled by the two rabid pitbulls.

little George tried to protect the kids by "
barking and rushing at them [pitbulls], but they started to bite him - one on the head and the other on the back."

just so you know what it's like.... imagine this...

vs.

two of this

George died.

he had to be put down because he was ripped to shreds.

Darryl Wilson, 4, holds a photo of George the Jack Russell, with the dog's owner, Alan Gay, left, and Richard Rosewarne, 11, Christian Rosewarne, 8, and Kelly Rosewarne, 10, in the background. Photo: Nic Gibson/Taranaki Daily News
i really like this photo. and yes, the owner's name is alan gay. get over it.

george is such a brave little dog. i won't call his death a waste, because it wasn't. his life actually meant something. and yes, i am aware it sounds a little stupid to be writing of an animal in this way.

but if only more dogs, more people, would do what he did for those children. no, not get mauled by two apeshit dogs almost frothing at the mouth. you know what i mean. do something that would make your existence worth something in the end. George probably had a far more intrinsic value to his owner in terms of companionship than anyone could know, but it's really this - his saving these children - that will forever endear him in the hearts of people.

what would you choose?

i read the newspaper at rick's today. i also watched the news. it upsets me. remember Knut? he's attracting about 30000 people to Zoo Berlin everyday now. but in a sad twist, Yan Yan, the 22 year old female giant panda at the zoo has died. some reckon she got freaked out by the crowds drawn to the zoo. but the zoo, of course, denies it. but she's old-ish. could've been anything. poor Bao Bao [her mate] is 27, and as of today, all alone.

on a lighter note. some chinese gangster dude sent a video to the news, threatening to kill some other chinese dude. he sent it to the NEWS - no mask, no hi-tech voice disguising thing. just a video.
very smart oh.
read for yourself. i dont want to write anything that might induce a video threat of my own XD.

another thing i read in the paper that made me really sad was an article about kids in Romania whose parents work in other countries. see, these parents think their working abroad is ultimately for the good of the children, but they don't see that the kids would rather be poor and have mum and dad at home, than have a mobile [seriously] and eat aunt's cooking everyday.

the saddest part is that these kids kill themselves. they're 9, 11, and they're committing suicide cause they'd rather die than live without mum and dad.
this little guy's parents work in italy. he and his brother are model students but they're quiet. in fact, the only time they light up is when they talk about their parents.

there is seriously something wrong with us when we can't see that life is more than anything else you can find in the world. it's an argument we've heard many times, and one you're going to hear again.

yeah, you need to work to eat. people who think love and happiness transcends all are idiots because no matter how much you love him, you're still gonna die if you don't eat. then your love is wasted anyway so yes, money is important; but only to a certain extent.

the reverse side of that is that money can't buy love or happiness. and when you die you can't take money with you, but you will always have the intrinsic value of having lived and loved.

it's not like these people aren't earning anything in romania. it's just not a lot. but in going away to make more money to give their kids a better life, the strive for money is sucking any chance for life at all away.

it's money vs life.

i know what i'd choose.

goldfish turns tide on memory myth

sunday times, january 29, 2006

"they are said to have a memory span of three seconds, but you can forget that myth."
oh really?

"despite having brains that weigh only a tenth of a gram, they are capable of remembering and learning and they beat trout in intelligence."
wow, trout must be stupid.

the next thing we must ask ourselves is WHO THE HELL RESEARCHES THIS KIND OF STUFF?

"the findings were made by scientists at Queen's university, belfast. researcher rachel dunlop looked at how goldfish and trout reacted when given electric shocks in a tank"
oh, there's the answer.

and if you're worried about animal cruelty...
"the experiments, which complied with animal welfare rules, were done in a tank divided into three sections."
so no worries, eh.

""fish have been regarded as driven by instinct and reflex. this study shows that fish learn to avoid a painful stimulus based on spatial clues and show evidence of spatial memory." says rachel dunlop."
you know, this means that goldfish are not only smarter than trout, they're smarter than humans too.

"behind the glassy eyed stare of the goldfish lie hidden depths, research shows."
hmm... wonder if this excuse would work for me.
